PSU Last TaiGREAT:(

Hard to believe this Saturday marks our last TailGreat for the season. It has been a great year (despite the weather and two home losses)...

The last TailGreat is an annual favorite: The Soup Cook Off

Enter any soup for prizes and braggin rights.

The categories are:
Best Overall
2nd Place
Most Original Recipe
Best Presentation

Because it is a noon game we will continue voting after the game and announce the winners by 4pm.

Thank you to all who donated canned goods and tailgate supplies for next year. I will have the box set out for this game as well for those who would still like to donate. The Venture Club will be putting together Thanksgiving baskets next Wednesday for needy families in Centre County. We are looking for donations of yummy Thanksgiving goods: Ex. Cranberry sauce, gravy, sweet potatoes, boxed mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, boxed stuffing, canned pumpkin, etc.

The Buckeyes are Rolling into Town

Hi all,
The Ohio State game is set for 3:30pm and the theme is Italian...delicious!!

We will try once again to hold the first ever TailGreat Tournament. If you know you are going to be there and who you want to play with, let me know. You can always sign up the day of the game. Prizes awarded!

I will once again this year be collecting canned and/or dry goods for the Thanksgiving Day baskets the Venture Club puts together each year. The food goes to women and their children who have recently moved out of the Women's Resource Center and are on their own. I will have a little treat for anyone who donates a canned or dry good :)

Also for the final two games of the year we will be collecting paper products for next year's TailGreats. Donna & Pam supply us with all that stuff. I thought it might put less of a burden on them if we tried to collect some ahead of time. So any donations of paper plates, napkins, aluminium foil, cups, paper coffee cups, trash bags, paper towels, etc. would be greatly appreciated. They have the plastic silverware covered.

Minnesota Tailgate Changes....Alert!

I am sure you are all finding out or maybe this is your first time hearing, but ALL grass lots will be closed tomorrow for tailgating. There will be limited parking on paved lots and no tents allowed to fit the maximum amount of cars. Whoa!!!

The tailgate will be at the Brushwood house. All are welcome. We will have tents set up for those that want the true roughing the outdoors and tailgating in the snow, but you can also warm up inside and have flushable potties...yahoo!

Please bring whatever food/drinks you were already planning on bringiing and if you could still bring your tailgating chairs that would be helpful as well.

Homecoming

Hi all,
Homecoming next week! Game time is set for 3:30pm.

The theme next week is wine/beer tasting. Pair your favorite special beverage with a food of your choice. Does anyone have plastic wine glasses? I have no clue what I am bringing just yet. Gotta work on this.

We are thinking of doing the TailGreat Tourney we were unable to do for the Iowa game due to rain. So...bring your game on...maybe...just checked the weather forecast and it says Chance of Rain/Snow Showers...what!?!?!! High of 41.

I will update later this week with a forecast decision on the tourney. Have a great week all.

Penn State vs. Eastern Illinois

Hi gang,

The Iowa tailgate was one of my favorites yet! Despite the rain, there was a great energy and vibe at our TailGreat! Too bad it didn't carry through the game :( But we recovered on Saturday with a win in Illinois.

Notes: The tailgate tourney will be rescheduled for Homecoming weekend. I don't think anyone wanted to play Ladder Ball in that rain!

We are trying to put together some great music to accompany our great tailgate. Give me some song suggestions and better yet, if you have the CD let Bri borrow them for a week to put the music on his iPod which we will bring to each tailgate.

Back at it this week! The theme is Southern BBQ. I am planning on bringing some hush puppies and probably some BBQ Chicken. I know Pam's brining beans and Donna some queso dip and fried chicken. Look to Paula Deen for tips on this event.

Forecast as of now: High of 53, cloudy with some chance of rain. It will be bitter in the morning!

Check out this short music clip of tailgates so far.

TailGreat Tourney Details

Hi all,
Gettin things in gear for Saturday's Tournament. Make sure to bring plenty of frothy beverages as it is a Looong day of tailgating and several drinking games ;)

Just a pot luck this week.
Weather not looking terrific for Saturday :( Although it doesn't look like a soaking rain.

A special shout out to fellow tailgater Scott Greenleaf who is working in Qatar and will be unable to make a game this season. Scott treats us every season with his big steam, baked shrimp dish (see pic). Hey Scott, We are....

PSU vs. Iowa

We break into Big Ten action next week as does the real test for our beloved Lions.

This is an 8pm game so it's ALL day tailgating...yahoo!! The RV will be set up by 8am so come on by anytime.

We are holding our first ever TailGREAT Tourney. We will have five games: Beer Pong, Bean-Bag Toss, Ladder Ball, Flip Cups, and Quarters. This is a partner's competition. If you know ahead of time who your partner will be, drop me a line as I will be making up brackets. But you can join the fun that day as well.

We will have prizes for individual game winners as well crown an overall champion duo.

There is no food theme for next week, just a pot-luck. I am bringing the Baked Potato Bar & burgers and I heard about pulled pork from Greg.

2009-2010 Themes

Hi all,
After collecting some ideas from fellow tailgaters, we have complied the list of themes for this tailgate season. Disclaimer: The themes are just for pure fun, please feel free to bring whatever you like to the tailgate-you do not have to always abide by the theme :).

More details, updated forecasts, etc. the week before each game, so check back and remember to bring along any friends and family to join the fun.

September 5th-Akron; Noon Kickoff:
"That's a Wrap"
Bring some fillings for a wrap party. Pulled pork, chicken salad, various cut up veggies, cheeses, etc. Make your own wrap recipe from the bar selection (Thanks Teresa for this suggestion).

September 12th-Syracuse; Noon Kickoff:
"Wing-Off"
Braggin rights for the best wings. (It will be tough to beat Romy).

September 19th-Temple; Noon Kickoff:
"Mexican Fiesta/Hawaiian Luau"
The two kinda go together. Icy drinks (Donna's bringing Blue Maui, Tiff's bringing Margarita ingredients), any Mexican or Hawaiian dish (fish, pork are biggies in Hawaii). Tiff will also bring the Quesidilla maker for fresh dillas.

September 26th-Iowa-Night Game!:
"TailGreat Tourney"
Grab a partner and take part in some friendly competition-Ladder Ball, the Bean-Bag Toss thing, Beer Pong (any other game requests?) will be part of our bracket to find the ultimate Tailgating Team. If ya don't have a partner we'll get ya one. Prizes awarded. Potluck on the food for this one; I am planning to bring the Baked Potato Bar. (Thanks to Greg & Laura Tyson for the inspiration!)

October 10th-E Illinois (who is that??):
"Southern BBQ"
I can taste Pam's Baked Beans already, better make it a triple batch for this one :) Whose bringing the Beano?

October 17th-Minnesota & Homecoming; 3:30 Kickoff:
"Wine/Beer Tasting"
Let us sample your favorite bottle of wine or speciality brew of beer and pair it with just the right dish or appetizer.

November 7th- Ohio State:
"Italian Night"
Easy, delicious and great for the waist line :).

November 14th-Indiana:
"4th Annual TailGreat Soup Cook-Off"
A colder November game is perfect for this warm-ya up feast.

Ready for the 2009 Season?

With 8 home games this is going to be a wild season! Starting to think about themes and fun additions to the tailgate, please send me your suggestions!! We of course will keep with tradition and hold our annual Soup Cook-Off, date to be determined. Probably a cold November game.

The Mexican fiesta is usually a hit and we'll do that early in the season so we can enjoy cold margaritas!

Any other ideas?

Blue & White Weekend

Yahoo! April 25th marks the start off 2009 tailgate season with Blue & White weekend.

We figured a pot-luck would be easiest for this one. So bring what ya want and we'll be in our usual spot.

Hope many of you can make it! Here are some pics from Tom & Donna's and Pam & Rich's trip to the Rose Bowl :)
